Happy New Year! It is now 2008! The break is over, and we have all returned to work. The break was relaxing, but most of us thought it was over too quickly! I polled the employees of Century Color to find out their favorite gifts to give/receive, and their New Years resolutions for 2008. Here is what they said:

Dennis and Debbie Sheridan:

“I would have to say that our favorite gift to give this year was the Wii system for our daughter Elizabeth. She really didn’t think that she would get it because it is in such high demand. It was the last gift she opened, and she was thrilled. After she opened it, we told her what dad went through to get it. He drove in the freezing rain and sleet at 4:30am on highway 84 to a West Hartford Best Buy store. He arrived at the parking lot with about 20 other cars waiting. He noticed no one was in line, so he got out to stand in front of the store which caused people to come yelling and charging out of their warm cars arguing that they got there first. Eventually he was pushed back to #21 in line, but happily he was still able to get her one because there were 80 available. Elizabeth greatly appreciated what her dad went through to get her a Wii.”

*Side Note: Dennis and Debbie met at Century Color and have been married 20 years

Michele Manning:

“My favorite gift to receive was an iPod. I had no idea I was getting it and the box was so small I thought it was a watch. Before loading music, I of course loaded it with photos!”

Joanne Powers:

“My favorite gift to give this year was a toy talking parrot given to my 5 year old grandson, Ryan, who right now is very into pirates. This unique parrot can also mimic what you say over and over again. He was thrilled with it, but by now his parents are ready for it to fly away.

Nancy Bearse:

“My favorite gift given were bracelets I created for an elderly friend. Her health is failing and her emotions have been very low. She had no Christmas spirit this year. One of the bracelets was very festive, made with gold beads and gold and red jingle bells. She put on both bracelets, one on each wrist, and started playfully shaking the wrist with all the bells and gold beads. Her eyes brightened up and a smile came to her face. It was like her spirit came back to her. She continued to shake her wrist to hear the bells and said that she will wear the bracelet everyday through the holiday season. Seeing her come back to her old self was a gift back to me.”

Susan Johnston:

My New Year’s resolution is to make a point of telling the people in my life how important they are to me. Even though we all assume those we love know it, it is important to tell them from time to time. I began by writing a two-page letter to my Uncle so he would know how important he was to me when I was growing up-and he still is.”

Nancy Eaton:

“My favorite gift to receive this year was a toss-up between a large check from my mother (very unexpected!!!) and my hubby gave me a $100.00 gift card to my favorite quilt shop (That’s like gold!). See my quilting blog at http://quiltingquandry.blogspot.com

Melanie Shephard:

“My favorite gift to give this year was given to my mom. I gave her a photo crystal that I had created with my image. She had been complaining that she had no pictures of me that were updated. She cried when she opened it, and now all her friends at work are jealous because they want their own photo crystals.”

And last but not least, Century Color's New Years resolution is to become a greener company. We believe that it is important to take care of the environment, and we will be informing all of you in future blogs about our progress.  If you have any resolutions or stories about favorite gifts please share them with us by posting a comment to this blog!

I gave my wife a beautiful necklace as new year gift. She had been quite long wanting the necklace. Actually I want to give it on our wedding anniversary on 6 January, but the I thought that giving on new year night will be more surprising to her.
